The Promoting Heart Health Program is a NIH funded research project conducted by Dr. Pamela Stewart Fahs and research team from the Decker School of Nursing at Binghamton University. Promoting Heart Heath brings an awareness of individual heart health risks in rural women ages 35-65 years of age. The program assesses smoking, physical activity, and diet and those in the program are receiving education on reducing heart disease risks through community interventions, such as this web page or nurse visits. A community meeting was held on December 12th of 2007 in the format of a “round robin” to assess what members of the community thought would be an effective intervention in promoting heart health. By popular vote, a web site with information on walking areas in each township was decided upon.
The Promoting Heart Health Staff would like to thank the community for their participation, the Delaware County Public Health Nursing Service (Health Department) and the Delaware Valley Hospital for all their help and accommodations with this project. A special thank you goes to Vera Buel, Mandy Walsh, and Heather Warner at the Health Department and Dottie Kruppo at DVH.
